Case Study 3: Action Learning Pathway Design
Introduction
At the time of developing this design, I am two and a half years into the diploma. I have come to the point where i am ready to think about the remainder of the diploma, and realised that the journey I have been taking so far has been somewhat random and motivated by opportunities that have presented themselves, rather than perhaps by concious decisions to fulfil my needs as i progress through the diploma. So I have decided to make my action learning pathway a design that I am implementing at this point in the diploma, and to include it as a case study.
Objective
The objective of this design is to ensure that the remainder of the diploma is tailored towards ensuring that my needs are met in my goal to become an accomplished permaculture practitioner. I will fulfil this objective by identifying what my needs are, evaluating them and then planning how to structure the remainder of the portfolio.
Design Process
I have decided to use the CEAP design process, which is an acronym that stands for Collection, Evaluation, Application of Principles and Planning. I am using this process for the following reasons:
Collection will be about taking stock of the work done so far, asking myself what my needs and motivation are and investigating potential ways to develop the portfolio.
Evaluation will be about reflecting on this information collected
Applying Permaculture Principles will be about thinking about each principle and how i can use it to inform and improve my design
Planning will be about planning the remainder of my portfolio using the results of the evaluation and application of principles
The design itself will be a reflection of the above process and a distillation into an action learning pathway that describes how I am going to complete the remainder of my diploma.

Design Process
I have decided to use the CEAP design process, which is an acronym that stands for Collection, Evaluation, Application of Principles and Planning. I am using this process for the following reasons:
- This design is primarily concerned with information collection, evaluation and planning, and therefore is a good fit for the intention of the design
- The 'A' stands for 'Applying Permaculture Principles'. This will ensure that I make a concious effort to use the principles in my thinking, which is something that could easily be overlooked in an exercise of this kind.
- Using CEAP gives me good exposure and practice in another design process, which helps me develop my permaculture skills from both a teaching and a designing perspective.
Collection will be about taking stock of the work done so far, asking myself what my needs and motivation are and investigating potential ways to develop the portfolio.
Evaluation will be about reflecting on this information collected

Collection
The information I will need to collect for this design is the following:
- My Diploma Story. The work I have done so far and the reasons for it.
- What are my needs?
- What are the Possibilities?
