Case Study 8: FSC Margam - Implementation
IntroductionThe Apricot Centre lead a course in facilitated permaculture design course over a weekend at Flatford Mill for the Field Studies Council. This is the resulting design. All present contributed to the design and the facilitators - Marina O'Connell, Natalia Guerra and Bob Mehew played specific roles in facilitation. Bob Mehew's involvement in the design has been highlighted where appropriate. The permaculture association has approved this approach as appropriate for a diploma case study.
The overall vision for the design and background can be found in the design write-up on the Design page and will therefore not be repeated here. The design process (SADIM) can be followed via the links at the top of the page to step through the process through to the actual design. ReflectionsI learned a great deal about how to execute the design process with other people during this course. Group dynamics were interesting, and tapping into peoples creatively and following the feedback, allowing them to explore what interested them.
Natalia gave a masterclass in technical drawing which inspired me to use the techniques i learned for FSC Margam case study. Pictures of the site and design |
Diploma AccreditationPrinciples and Ethics

However they were introduced at the beginning of the course and then used explicitly throughout as the design was produced. Design Process The SADIM design process was used and can be followed by clicking on the above links. Design Tools Use of design tools can be viewed on the Survey and Analysis pages of this site. Implementation The design has been implemented. Flatford Mill have asked The Apricot Centre to showcase the design by giving guided tours at events such as Apple Days. Evaluation of Effectiveness This can be viewed on the maintenance page via the client feedback we received on the design and the overall process Skills Development and Understanding of Permaculture Bob lead the group through the following specific exercises and honed his permaculture skills as a result:
