Case Study 1: My Garden
Design Summary
|
IntroductionThe focus of this case study is to apply permaculture principles to my own garden. The aim is to improve on the existing elements and ojectives of the of the garden using skills and knowledge gained attending a Permaculture Design Course in June 2010. These are:
ReflectionThis was my first design, and at the time I was fearful of the drawing aspect of permaculture and did not want to do a free-hand drawing. This and combined with a lack of time lead me to completing the design using an Excel spreadsheet and its drawing functionality. I was able to write up this design whilst commuting by train, enabling me to make effective use of time which was in short supply.
Completing this design enabled me to consolidate my knowledge of the design process and use of design tools, which I was not at all confident with before approaching the design. It gave me a firm foundation of permaculture design to move on to the rest of the diploma. |
Diploma AccreditationPrinciples and Ethics
Principles and Ethics are referred to explicitly on the Design page Design Process The SADIMET design process was used and can be followed by clicking on the above links. (Design Questionnaire. Survey and Basemap all refer to 'Survey') Design Tools Use of design tools can be viewed on the Survey and Analysis pages of this site. Implementation The design has been implemented and gone through several tweaks as knowledge of both the site and permaculture techniques evolved. Skills Development and Understanding of Permaculture Permaculture kills developed as a result of this design
